Our Story

I met Shyler, my future wife in 2009. She had been newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease and found kombucha as a daily remedy for digestive wellness. Since then, Shyler has achieved a Masters in Functional Nutrition and has dedicated her career to helping other individuals and companies with guidance in nutrition.

In 2009, I was a bar manager and a novice cocktail enthusiast. Since then, I have earned recognition for award-winning cocktail programs as a restaurant group beverage director and consultant, have worked on behalf of several large spirit brands, and have enjoyed multi-country travel for cocktail competitions.

Shyler and I decided that our skills and expertise could be united to create a better-tasting functional beverage in kombucha. Unfortunately, my father passed from alcoholism a few years ago, providing extra motivation to promote health and wellness. Growing up in the alcohol industry, it is more meaningful than ever that we have created a delicious healthy beverage that can be substituted for a beer or a cocktail (or a soda).

Shyler and I launched Alive & Well Kombucha in May of 2023, and we have been overwhelmed with positive feedback from kombucha category fans and skeptics alike. Achieving our objective, our flavor profiles are much less vinegary and more balanced than traditional kombucha. We aim to attract new consumers to the category and expand the popularity of the functional beverage.

Our Alive and Well Culture

  • Our vision is to expand the category of functional beverages including kombucha to provide healthier options for people to enjoy in restaurants, sporting venues, concerts, spas, hotels, etc. One third of Americans do not drink alcohol, and there is a growing movement to drink healthier cocktails or to reduce alcohol consumption for longevity and mental wellness. We hope to contribute to this healthy movement by providing more delicious options for people to choose from! We would love for kombucha to be as available as soda pop. Try our Alive & Well Kombucha. We hope to pleasantly surprise you!

  • Gardeners appreciate the unpredictability of mother nature. They are kindhearted and generous, sharing their produce with others. They tend to have a sense of time tuned to nature, along with the characteristics of curiosity, generosity, and patience.

With the characteristics of the gardener in mind, we created a light, floral, calming kombucha with specific flowers that help calm the nervous system and the mind for a real moment of clarity and relaxation. This line is moderately effervescent with a light but not overpowering sweetness.

  • Carpenters often enjoy working outdoors or applying themselves to a hands-on project. They also tend to be detail-oriented and organized. Carpenters tend to possess physical strength and stamina, along with problem-solving skills, honesty, and trustworthiness.

With the characteristics of the carpenter in mind, we created an earthy, woody, smokey kombucha with the influence of specific trees, including palo santo, birch, cedar, and oak. This line is a little bit more subtle in terms of effervescence. Just as in whiskey, the wood influence tames and smooths the flavor profile of the kombucha.

  • While we are at the beginning of our kombucha journey, our goal is to create a community centered around self-care, work-life balance, gratitude, being present, passion-projects, sustainability, hospitality, and staying physically active. We hope to create this environment for ourselves, our families, our employees, and our customers.
